Additional 16 Swiftships patrol vessels for Egypt

The Egyptian Navy will be supplied with six additional 28-meter patrol vessels from US company Swiftships, along with other equipment valued at $22 million.

The six 28-metre Swiftships patrol vessels will be co-produced in Egypt.

Swiftships will also supply 10 new 28m Coastal Patrol Craft (CPC) “Kit” to be co-produced in Egypt at the Egyptian Navy (EN) Alexandria Shipyard and Egyptian Ship Repair and Building Company (ESRBC).

The US Department of Defence announced on 26 April that the contract also covers the supply of Zodiac Rigid Inflatable Boats, Forward-Looking Infrared Systems (FLIRs), personal computer packages, and associated contractor engineering technical services, and provisioned item orders, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of the contract to $26 357 027.

Swiftships 28-meter patrol boat is powered by two diesel engines rated at 1 652 hp and has a top speed of 25 knots with a range of 900 nautical miles. It is armed with three 12.7 mm machine guns.

Swiftships’ 28 Meter Patrol Boat is designed for multiple roles, including coastal defense, anti-surface operations, Maritime Security Operations (MSO) and Maritime Interdiction Operations (MIO), surveillance and intelligence gathering, search and rescue, etc.

The Egyptian Navy operates around 30 Swiftships boats for the Egyptian Navy including mine hunters, survey vessels, and both steel and aluminum patrol boats.
