Satellite photos shows large number of Ka-52 attack helicopters at Egypt’s airbase

Newly published images from a commercial satellite indicates that Egypt  has just taken delivery of a large number of Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopter.

The 12 recently received Ka-52 attack helicopters were spotted at the Egyptian Air Force at the at Kattamia Air Base few kilometers north of Cairo.

The Ka-52 Alligator is a modern attack helicopter, developed by Kamov Design Bureau, a subsidiary of Rostec’s Russian Helicopters. Egyptian military placed an order for 32 units of the Ka-52K Katran (naval version) and 46 Units of the ‘standard’ Ka-52 Alligator on December 2015, when delivered, the attack fleet would be operated from the two Egyptian Navy Mistral class Helicopter Carrier. The Mistrals were both originally intended for the Russian Navy and can carry 16 large-sized helicopters.

Earlier this year, Kamov Helicoper released some photos of the Ka-52 helicopter meant for the Egypt still painted with yellow factory colors. 

The Ka-52 Alligator is a next-generation reconnaissance and combat helicopter designed to destroy tanks, armoured and non-armoured ground targets, and enemy troops and helicopters both on the front line and in tactical reserves. The helicopter can operate around the clock and in all weathers.

Andrei Boginsky, General Manager of Russian Helicopters confirmed that first 15 Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopter has been delivered to Egypt since 2017, with another 31 shipping to be completed over the next two years.

The Ka-52 Alligator is a next-generation reconnaissance and combat helicopter designed to destroy tanks, armoured and non-armoured ground targets, and enemy troops and helicopters both on the front line and in tactical reserves.

The helicopter can operate around the clock and in all weathers, providing target acquisition and designation for helicopter teams and ground troop command and control centres. It can also provide fire support for troop landings, fly routine patrols and escort military convoys.

The 2S25M Sprut-SDM1 is a modernized version of the 2S25 Sprut-SD self-propelled anti-tank gun designed and manufactured by the Russian defense Company Tractor Plants.
