The Moroccan Gendarmerie has received four “52 Fearless Super Interceptor” speed boats from American manufacturer METAL SHARK.
Metal Shark said the latest delivery of four brings to 15 the number in service with the North African nation. The four Fearless Super Interceptor boats arrived in October 2023, although it appears a fifth for the Gendarmerie was delivered earlier.
Supplied by METAL SHARK, a designer and builder of custom vessels for commercial, defense, and law enforcement purposes, these imposing multi-mission craft are the apex of Morocco’s naval operations involved in the ongoing fight against maritime crime.
Morocco has been diversifying its suppliers to modernize and strengthen its arsenal through cooperation with other countries such as the United States as part of a strategic alliance.
In March 2022, Morocco took delivery of the first batch of 12 Metal Shark boats from the United States for special operations, coastal police duties, port entrance monitoring, and coastal interception.
Morocco and the U.S. cemented a ten-year agreement committing to enhance their security and military collaboration while improving coordination with respect to addressing growing terrorist threats and security risks.
The vessels will help the Royal Moroccan Navy carry out coastal patrols and interdiction of criminal activities as part of the broader military partnership between Morocco and the United States.
Powered by twin 1,650-horsepower MAN 12-cylinder diesel inboard engines mated to Arneson ASD14 surface drives via ZF transmissions, the Super Interceptor reaches top in the 70-knot range. The vessel’s flexible configuration allows for a maximum fuel capacity of 1,000 gallons, resulting in an incredible 12.5 hours endurance at 50 knots.
