The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops operating in Somalia under African Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has received six Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) from ATMIS FHQs Mogadishu.
The armoured vehicles were received on 19 December 2022, in order to enhance the KDF’s mobility to facilitate quick and efficient response and provide better support for troop mobile operations.
The vehicles are International Armoured Groups (IAG) Guardian Xtream 4×4 armoured personnel carriers. The IAG Guardian Xtream is a United Arab Emirates-made armored vehicle.
The 4×4 vehicle offers protection level of STANAG Level III, and are able to withstand projectile fired from high level ballistic and blast resistance.
The green-coloured armoured vehicles were earlier seen being offloaded at the Mombasa port, in Kenya last month.
The sector Commander Brigadier Jattani Gula while receiving the APCs thanked the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for considering Sector two as this will go along way in improving our force protection and capability as per ATMIS Concept of Operations.
“Our troops needs to be agile, mobile, flexible, adaptable, and responsive. This acquisition will ensure such is achieved,” he added.
The new acquisition is part of the ongoing capacity and capability enhancement of ATMIS Mobile and Quick Reaction Force troops as underscored by the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2628.
