BIRD Aerosystems will present its AMPS Airborne Missile Protection Systems including the SPREOS DIRCM at the US Army Aviation Mission Solutions Summit

According to the company, SPREOS is operationally proven to protect airborne platforms against the most advanced MANPADS available today.

BIRD Aerosystems will participate at the US Army Aviation Mission Solutions Summit in Nashville, Tennessee and present its latest developments of the AMPS Airborne Missile Protection Systems including the SPREOS DIRCM, the most advanced and lightweight DIRCM solution available today, and the MACS Missile Approach Confirmation Sensor.

BIRD’s solutions are installed on hundreds of aircraft operating around the world including many US Government aircraft.

This is the first time that the company presents its renowned SPREOS DIRCM in the Army Aviation Summit, including a presentation of live fire tests performed on the system and operational installations of the system on various aircraft.

SPREOS (Self Protection Radar Electro-Optic System) is an advanced DIRCM system that provides enhanced protection against different types of MANPADS, including the most advanced ones, for a wide range of airborne platforms ranging from small helicopters to large transport aircraft.

SPREOS combines a Semi-Active Dual Band Radar and Directional IR Countermeasure. Queued by the Missile Warning Sensors, SPREOS points towards the suspected threat and performs a Doppler-based interrogation to confirm the existence of a valid threat (hence eliminating all false alarms), while precisely tracking and analyzing the threat’s unique information to enable the most effective jamming response.

Ronen Factor, Co-CEO and Founder at BIRD Aerosystems: “As the recent conflict in Ukraine demonstrated, MANPADS are an extremely effective weapon that poses a real threat to military and civil aircraft and can prevent either side from obtaining air supremacy.

In order to mitigate this risk and ensure the safety of aircraft and crew, the AMPS system is uniquely able to alert and confirm of an incoming threat, with zero false alarms, and provide the most enhanced protection tailored for the specific threat using the SPREOS DIRCM and optionally flares”.
