Causes and Solutions to rising insecurity in Nigeria

Security is the fundamental right and entitlement for every citizen.

Security involves the mechanism put in place to avoid, prevent and reduce conflicts, and threats. Security is necessary for National cohesion, peace and sustainable development.

Nigeria is currently dealing with series of security challenges ranging from kidnapping, armed banditry, armed Robbery, abductions and terrorists attacks these and many other constitutes of major form of insecurity we have today in Nigeria.

The Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR is in no doubt putting his best in curbing the menace by equipping the military and Police, deploying them to the most affected regions “North-East and North-West” to combat the Boko haram terrorists, banditry and kidnapping.

The causes of the current rise of insecurity in the country includes: majorly Unemployment and Poverty high rate, illiteracy among Nigerians, Ethnicity and Religious Differences.

The solutions for the insecurity challenges in Nigeria is for the government to create an enabling environment for the citizens, the President should sign into law all Job creation Bills passed by the National Assembly.

For example, the bill for an Act to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps which was declined assent during the 8th National Assembly has been reintroduced in the 9th National Assembly.

According to the bill, the core objectives of the corps is to “develop, empower and provide gainful employment for the youth, facilitate peace, volunteerism, community services, neighbourhood watch, nation-building and related matters.”.

If the Peace Corps bill is signed into law by Mr. President it would reduce the challenges of insecurity, unemployment and poverty in the country.

Peace corps of Nigeria is the largest NGO and youth uniform organization in Africa with over 180,000 viable existing officers Men across the 774 Local Governments of the 36 states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory.

The organization is equally an affiliate of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP), Global Network of Civil Society Organizations for Disaster Reduction (GNDR) and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). across the 774 Local Governments of the 36 states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory.
