Senegal has outlined an ambitious fleet recapitalization plan as a result of increased maritime security challenges across Africa.

Since Senegal will begin oil exploitation by 2022 and is anticipating a significant rise in illegal maritime activity once the drilling begins. In order to be prepared for these evolving threats, the Senegal Navy is currently shortlisting suppliers for OPVs, patrol crafts, and logistic support ships and advanced equipment.

This procurement and acquisition plan will be showcased to the international public during the Africa Maritime Security Forum  (AMSF 2020) to be held between 20th – 22nd January, 2020 in Dakar, Senegal.

The AMSF 2020 will be the first high-calibre event in Senegal to feature 8 Chiefs of Naval Staff and global maritime decision makers to address the security infrastructure supporting West Africa’s boom in LNG production.

The African Maritime Security Forum 2020 is slated to coincide with Senegal Navy’s 45th birthday celebrations, the event will reveal Senegal’s impressive naval base and fleet capabilities to the international community as well as their commitment to international navy cooperation.
