The Burkinabe Army paraded four Otokar Cobra armoured personnel carriers (APCs) during the country’s Independence Day parade held on 11 December atManga, making it the latest known user of the Turkish-made vehicle.

A Burkinabe military source disclosed to the media that an unspecified number of Cobras have been delivered since September, with several currently deployed in the East Region, where counter-terrorist operations are ongoing.

The source added that the first Cobras APCs are operated by Commando Infantry Regiments (RIC) of the Burkinabe Army(an elite unit), but additional vehicles are expected to be delivered to the Combined Regiments (RIA). Burkina fields two such units, which combine armoured cavalry squadrons and motorised infantry companies.

The 2S25M Sprut-SDM1 is a modernized version of the 2S25 Sprut-SD self-propelled anti-tank gun designed and manufactured by the Russian defense Company Tractor Plants. The 2S25M was specially designed to be used by the Russian airborne troops as an anti-tank vehicle. The modernization of the 2S25 increases reliability and improves technical characteristics by unification with BMD-4M chassis components. According to a representative of Russian defense contractor Tractor Plants, the firepower of the 2S25M Sprut-SDM1 air-droppable self-propelled anti-tank gun is on par with that of the T-90MS main battle tank.
