Turkey’s first armed drone system – Songar

SONGAR is a remotely-operated armed drone system, the first of its kind developed indigenously for the Turkish Armed Forces’ inventory, and was integrated into an armoured 4×4 vehicle for the first time. Thus, SONGAR integrated land vehicles gained significant capabilities to detect and eliminate hostile targets in advance during internal security operations or cross-border operations.

Thanks to its stabilized shooting accuracy, SONGAR has taken its place as one of the important national capabilities of asymmetric warfare. Having real-time video transmission capability, SONGAR can simultaneously perform various critical tasks such as target detection, area surveillance, threat neutralization, and post-mission analysis with a single or multiple drone system.

OPERATIONAL CONCEPTS
ASISGUARD SONGAR is designed for attack and defence applications.

ATTACK
Coordinated Attacks: SONGAR can be used to coordinate attacks with other military assets, such as ground troops or other drones.
Force Multiplication: SONGAR can act as a force multiplier by providing additional firepower and support to ground troops.
Surprise and Stealth: SONGAR can be deployed stealthily, allowing forces to launch a surprise attack without revealing their location or presence.

DEFENSE
Diversion and Distraction: SONGAR can create diversions or distractions to draw enemy attention away from the movement of friendly forces.
Surveillance and Intelligence: Before launching an ambush, SONGAR can be used for reconnaissance and surveillance, providing real-time intelligence on enemy movements, positions, and activities.
Flexibility and Rapid Response: SONGAR offers flexibility in terms of deployment and can be rapidly redeployed to different locations as needed.

OUTCOME
The easily transportable and deployable SONGAR Armed Drone System is a force multiplier as a weapon system that provides team-level close air support. Its detachable magazine allows the operator to quickly reload the weapon for mission continuity. SONGAR can perform its task autonomously with multi-layered security until the operator receives permission to fire.

It has an ergonomic and user-friendly design that reduces the operator’s load during tasks such as connection loss, mission change during flight, and autonomous and remote-control flight modes.
