Allen-Vanguard, a Canadian counter-IED specialist, announced on 11 June 2026, the
signing of contracts worth over $3 million to supply electronic countermeasures (
ECM) equipment to two African nations. This includes the company’s vehicle-mounted
3XXX ECM suite and its portable SCORPION 2 system. The announcement coincided with
the Eurosatory exhibition in Paris, where the systems are displayed at stand DE345
in Hall 5a. The specific nations involved have not been disclosed due to the sensitive
nature of their operational environments, a common practice in the counter-IED sector
to prevent compromising ongoing operations.

Stuart Wilson, Director of Business Development and Marketing at Allen-Vanguard,
emphasized that these orders build upon longstanding engagements in the region. “
Our extensive history of supporting force protection efforts for African nations
and peacekeeping operations underscores our commitment,” Wilson stated, highlighting
the persistent threat posed by radio-controlled bombs and drones across the continent.

and allied peacekeeping personnel since 2018 by providing SCORPION manpacks and
3XXX systems to counter RC-IEDs. Additional support includes gifting SCORPION training

and equipping 19 [armored vehicles](https://www.military.africa/2022/10/allen-vanguard-integrates-counter-mine-equipment-to-african-militarys-ott-puma-m36-armoured-vehicles/)
for an African nation heavily involved in peacekeeping initiatives. A separate [deal](https://www.military.africa/2022/10/allen-vanguard-providing-counter-ied-equipment-to-somalia/)
also equipped Somali forces in 2022.

Beyond hardware, the contracts include capacity-building initiatives (such as deployment
of Field Service Representatives) to assist recipient nations in developing local
ECM expertise and reducing reliance on external contractors. These teams will leverage
the company’s Threat Management Team, a group of RF specialists dedicated to updating
jamming algorithms in response to evolving insurgent tactics. This approach aims
to maintain operational effectiveness over time.

The 3XXX suite, comprising units 3140, 3230, and 3330, functions by jamming radio
signals used by insurgents to initiate roadside bombs and operate small attack or
surveillance drones. It can be adapted for mounting on various armored vehicles
or installed as a fixed facility to protect bases, checkpoints, or convoy staging
areas. Operators can retune the systems to specific frequency bands as new threats
emerge, with software updates providing ongoing adaptation.

The SCORPION 2, designed for dismounted troops such as foot patrols, infantry units,
and EOD teams, offers RF protection comparable to vehicle-mounted systems without
the added weight. It employs algorithms to target specific enemy frequencies selectively,
thereby minimizing interference with friendly radio and GPS signals while effectively
blocking triggering signals. Over 500 units have been sold worldwide, especially
to the most prominent Five Eyes nations, as indicated by an Allen-Vanguard executive’s
remarks at the World Defense Show in Riyadh.

The procurement strategy for African security forces is pragmatic. RC-IEDs remain
the predominant threat, while small attack drones have transitioned from reconnaissance
tools to platforms for delivering explosives. A versatile ECM family that addresses
both vulnerabilities and emphasizes local capacity building aligns with the budgetary
and personnel constraints common among African defense ministries.

This strategy is consistent with broader trends in Allen-Vanguard’s order portfolio,
which includes a NATO ally’s SCORPION order in September 2024, ECM supplies to the
UAE armed forces in 2023, and a South American market entry in February 2026 with
an EQUINOX NG and SCORPION 2 order, as publicly announced by the company. These
African contracts reinforce the company’s global footprint, especially as drone
and RC-IED threats continue their ascendancy, underscoring Africa’s significance
in the company’s strategic markets. The timeline for the first deliveries remains
unspecified, pending further details once the systems are operational in the field.
