Spanish shipbuilder Group Aresa International has supplied five more Aresa inshore patrol boats to the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

The boats are five Aresa 1300 Sentinel II boats to NIMASA, with four Aresa 1300 Sentinel vessels supplied earlier in 2013. Likewise, in January 2021, the Spanish shipbuilder also supplied four Aresa 1700 IPC inshore patrol craft to NIMASA. Aresa announced the launch of the first Aresa 1700 Fighter II vessel (P494) for Nigeria in April 2021.

Aresa explained that the 13-metre-long 1300 Sentinel II is built entirely out of naval aluminium, and has integral armour built into the main cabin. It is powered by outboard motors for ease of handling and maintenance and is equipped with sensors like thermal and night vision cameras. With four outboard engines, the Sentinel II has a top speed of 55-60 knots.

Nigeria’s Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) recently acquired additional Aresa 1300 Sentinel vessels, which will play a key role in maintaining the safety of the nation’s coastline. The vessels are equipped with advanced radar, sonar, and communications systems to detect and respond to threats in the coastal waters. Additionally, they are fitted with state-of-the-art navigational and propulsion systems, allowing them to reach speeds of up to 25 knots.

The vessels are also capable of carrying out search and rescue operations, as well as providing humanitarian aid. The vessels are able to deploy several specialized rescue vessels, including dive teams and small craft, to assist in the event of an emergency. They also have a large capacity to store food, water, and medical supplies for those in need.

For a long time, Aresa has been supplying vessels for Nigeria, with Nigerian state-owned Global West Vessels Specialist Limited receiving four 17-meter-long Aresa 1800 CPV multirole vessels in 2013 on behalf of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). Aresa also delivered 4 Aresa 1300 sentinel RIB vessels to Global West in 2013.
