Zambian Air Force SF-260 trainer aircraft crash, two killed

The Zambian Air Force operates 12 SF-260TWs by its Training Squadron,

A Zambian Air Force two-seater SIAI-Marchetti SF-260 trainer aircraft crashed on Monday, 28 March near Livingstone, killing the two crew members.

ZAF director public relations and foreign liaison Lieutenant Colonel Helen Chota confirmed in a statement that same day that the two-seater aircraft registration number AF-545 crashed approximately 38 kilometers North of Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport.

Lt. Col. Chota said the accident claimed the lives of ZAF Livingstone station commander, Colonel Lyson Siame aged 42 years, and Second Lieutenant Kalasa Bwalya aged 27 years.

A board of enquiry by ZAF has since been convened to know the cause of the crash.

The Zambia Air Force Commander, Lieutenant General Colin Barry extends his heartfelt condolences to the families.

The Zambian Air Force operates 12 SF-260TWs by its Training Squadron, receiving six SF-260TWs in 2012 and another six were delivered in 2016.

The country also flies 15x K-8s, ten MB-326GBs and ten MFI-15s.
