SAAF launches tender for navigation aid systems

The South African defence and security procurement agency has issued a call for tender for bidders to supply, maintain, repair and support navigational aid systems and support equipment for the South African Air Force (SAAF).

The deadline for the tender (ECAC/2021/143, as with EARO/2021/135,) which relates to air force bases and ancillary equipment for flying safety is slated for 9 March. The tender was issued on 16 February.

Navigational Aids are a form of marker, signal or device that assista an aircraft by guiding and navigating it to its destination. It can be in the form of Instrument Landing Systems (ILS), Distance Measuring Equipment (DME), Non-Directional Beacon (NDB) or Doppler VHF Omnidirectional Range (DVOR).

This recent tender comes just a few weeks after Armscor issued a tender for maintenance and repair work on SA Air Force (SAAF) “launching and landing systems”, as well as maintenance and repair contract for Aircraft Arrestor Barrier Systems for the South African Air Force.

It is not yet certain which airbase or airport the navigation equipment will be installed on.
