NATO Mine Counter Measures Group Two (SNMCMG2) visited Tunisia

The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) Counter Measure Group Two (SNMCMG2)paid a visit to Port of La Goulette last week. SNMCMG2 hosted a Force Reception onboard the Flagship, FGS Rhein, facilitating a high-profile discusion on security and partnership between military and government officials from Tunisia and Ambassadors and officers from many Allied and Partner nations.

According to the NATO Task Group Commander Maginsky, he said that the visit was designed to support military dialogue and cooperation between NATO and Tunisia, especially in the area of counter-terrorism and maritime security operations.

Commander Maginsky stated: “It is always a pleasure for NATO ships to visit Tunisia and to be able to foster mutual understanding in important matters of security and stability and to be able to work together with Tunisian Navy.”

During the port visit, the Commanding Officers to the SNMCMG2 ships conducted a meeting with the Commanding Officer of the Tunisian Fast Patrol Boat Himilco, an Albatros Class Fast Patrol Boat, to plan a Passing Exercise (PASSEX) which took place when the force departed La Goulette.

SNMCMG 1 is part of the enhanced high readiness NATO Reaction Force and provides a crucial element to NATO’s capabilities. When not activated by NATO, SNMCMG1 takes part in different multinational exercises and trains with NATO members and partners.
